Newsletter – Issue 3 2019

A few words from the President:

We had almost 50 members and supporters at our AGM this year!

Special thanks to Z-PAC Patron and State Member for Hervey Bay Ted Sorenson for attending.

Also thank you to our Mayor, George Seymour. It was wonderful to receive your support. George was presented with his plaque for his part in the 2018 production – It’s Only a Play. We were also excited to announce it would be making a guest appearance in our first show in 2019, The Games Afoot, as the Broadcaster. However, this time he will be on stage in person for every show. We are so grateful for this huge commitment and thank him for his time and the additional exposure his attendance will bring to the Fraser Coast Community Theatre. Show opens this weekend. Booking details below.

Our committee presented their reports at the AGM and our executive was sworn in. As we received only a single nomination for every position, the new committee was sworn in unopposed (see below)

We gave a big Thank You to Derek Barrington who has stepped down this year from his role as Vice President and Set Building Co-ordinator, due to family commitments and we wish him well! Also our Treasurer Deborah Hunter has moved on to the role of Bookkeeper for Z-PAC. Deb made substantial improvements to tighten our financial control, and we are so grateful she will continue to be involved with Z-PAC in the year ahead. We welcome Julie Pearce as Vice President, Leigh Scheltinga in Promotions and Theresa Saunders is also joining the committee assisting Graeme in the Artistic area.

We were very excited to nominate two new Life Members:

Theresa Saunders and Jack McKeown. Both were unanimously accepted as the 2019 Z-PAC Life Members. Congratulations to Theresa and Jack and we thank them so much for their valuable contribution to Z-PAC over the years.

Finally, we have selected our replacement show as the Producers has to be postponed. See details below – we know you will love it!!

Best wishes
Liane Mills President

The Game’s Afoot (or Holmes for the Holidays)

March 15-31 2019

Written by Ken Ludwig
Directed by Liane Mills

It is December 1936 and Broadway star William Gillette, admired the world over for his leading role in the play Sherlock Holmes, has invited his fellow cast-members to his Connecticut castle for a weekend of revelry.

But when one of the guests is stabbed to death, the festivities in this isolated house of tricks and mirrors quickly turn dangerous. Then it’s up to Gillette himself, as he assumes the persona of his beloved Holmes, to track down the killer before the next victim appears. The danger and hilarity are non-stop in this glittering whodunit set during the Christmas holidays.

This is a light-hearted spoof of both an Agatha Christie whodunit and of bad radio drama, with every cliche of plot and sound effect.
Hilariously, all sound effects are produced on stage in the most ingenious and funny ways, with sound effects being the star of the show.

Theresa Saunders

Theresa Saunders has been involved with Z-PAC since 2002 including:

  • 2002 – Jelly Beans
  • 2010 – Heart
  • 2013 – Secret Bridesmaid’s Business
  • 2015 – A Night of Dark Intent
  • 2016 – Plaza Suite
  • 2017 – Under Milkwood (assistant director)
  • 2018 – It’s Only a Play (Co-director)

She is a delightful and talented lady who goes out of her way to assist at Z-PAC and adds so much to the theatre. Her move now into Directing is greatly appreciated also, as we need good directors selecting interesting plays and being able to carry them off well and work with our actors to ensure they not only have a good experience in a show, but also grow as performers.

A Big THANK YOU to Michelle and Les and the team at Hervey Bay Security

102 Islander Rd, Pialba QLD 4655 1300 651 427

For almost 4 years they have been monitoring the Security at Z-PAC, attending the premises when the alarm goes off and checking it day and night on their rounds.  Unfortunately, we are often subject to unwanted intruders and the security system is of great deterrent and keeps damage to a minimum.

We are now upgrading our security even further and Hervey Bay Security has offered to put in all the new units at no cost!!  How generous!! Please support this local business which not only provides an amazing range of security services, but also is a wonderful support of Z-PAC Theatre!

Thanks Michelle and Les!
