A few words from the President:

Great review from patrons for brilliant Acting, the wonderful Front of House experience and the beautiful set of the current show It’s Only a Play

Congratulations to Joanne and her Front of House team and Derek and his maintenance team – so many positive comments about the friendly staff, lovely decorations and wonderful music in the foyer. And so many comments about the beautiful set too. So much work goes into it all and we thank you for your dedication and hard work . The actors too have worked so hard and are putting in amazing performances which the audience is loving! One weekend to go – don’t miss out – book now!
If you’ve seen the show, we’d love you to write a review on our Facebook page or in Trip Advisor

Two shows auditioning soon. See below for details!

After this show, we will be busy rehearsing our final two productions for the year. Auditions coming up very soon so if you have an interest in performing, see below for details! The Xmas Panto is a great way to engage new actors and young performers.

Volunteers cleaning the cottage

Big Thanks to our lovely ladies Helen Jennings and Katrin Chrysaphis for their wonderful work in the Cottage. I don’t think it has ever looked better! All our Costumes and props are so tidy, making it so much easier to find everything, and providing a much needed extra rehearsal space!

MOU with Culture Caf at the Community Centre

Memorandum of Understanding with the Culture Caf has just been renewed for another year. Culture Caf is a great monthly event open to the public, which showcases different Cultures each month, serving food from the country and providing entertainment. See Flyer at the end of the Newsletter. Each month I host the event and have the opportunity to share with the 150 attendees what is coming up at Z-PAC. Z-PAC provides costumes and props for the events too. Recently our Tech Director Jeff Sweeney installed their new lighting, ably assisted by Michael Doherty. In return, Culture Caf promotes Z-PAC to all its members and volunteers, who regularly attend our shows and even volunteer with us! Great to see community groups working together!

Z-PAC Performs out in the Community

This past month Z-PAC has performed shows at Torbay Retirement Village, the Focus on Friendship Morning Tea at the Urangan Community Centre and at the Seniors Expo. All were very well received and Torbay and Urangan CC would love more! It is great to be able to provide entertainment for those who do not have the opportunity to attend our theatre. Thanks to Steve Dixon for his involvement with me, and to Jeff Sweeney for his valuable assistance running the sound.

Best wishes and see you at Z-PAC soon! Liane Mills President read more

Wolf Lullaby

Directed by Jonathan Dunn

Auditions: August 12, 2018 @ 1:00 pm

2018 - Wolf LullabyIntriguing! Gripping! Breathtakingly audacious. WOLF LULLABY by Hilary Bell is coming to ZPAC. This play unapologetically packs a punch and will grip audiences until its final moment.

In a bleak, remote town, a small child is murdered. Suspicion falls upon nine-year-old Lizzie. Angela, Lizzie’s young mother, is convinced her daughter is guilty. She must make the torturous choice between ignoring what her intuition tells her, and presenting Lizzie to the police, with painfully extracted information. Lizzie is constantly haunted by a ‘Wolf’, which seems to overwhelm her and, in her words, ‘swallow’ her.
For the four characters of this play, all their accepted beliefs about the world are challenged. WOLF LULLABY explores the disturbing question “can someone be born evil?” The situation for these characters tests the bonds between parent and child, society and individual.

This is a unique opportunity for local artists to extend their skills and immerse themselves in a classic of Australian Gothic literature. With a small cast, the experience for both actor and audience will be intense. For more information, download an audition package. Auditions occur August 12, 2018 @ 1:00 pm at Z-PAC Theatre – 15 Zephyr St Scarness.

It’s Only a Play – by Terrence McNally.

July 27-August 11 (8 shows only)

Directed by Mark Thomson and Theresa Saunders
Some Adult language and Adult Themes. Not suitable for children.
It's Only A PlayA sizzling comic celebration of theatre at its best and theatre people at their not-so-best.

It’s the opening night of “The Golden Egg” on Broadway and there’s a lavish party at the producer’s townhouse as they await the first reviews. The action takes place in the bedroom above the party where a group of insiders have staked themselves out to be the first to hear the reviews. In the group are the excitable playwright, the unstable director, the pill popping, aging star with an ankle monitor, the playwright’s supposed best friend, the show’s producer, the acerbic drama critic and a wannabe young actor who combine to create a sharp and comic comment on theatre and the people who inhabit it.

A Few Words from the President, Liane Mills

It is with a heavy heart we share the sad news of the recent passing of one of our wonderful supporters, George Mclean, partner of Suzanne Geddes. For many years George contributed greatly in the technical area of the theatre, before illness made him largely settle back as a patron. However, he still managed to assist with Front of House and back stage where he could (pictured with Suzie and Director, Judith LaForest working on the show The Odd Couple in March 2017).

We will all miss his friendly manner and cheerful smile which always brightened those around him. Rest in Peace George.

Moving on to some cheery news – our second show for the year, Driving Miss Daisy was a huge success with audiences delighted. Hope you had a chance to see it! Ticket sales reached 901 with the final two shows sold out. We are so upset having to disappoint people when they call for tickets and the show is sold out.

Please book now for our next show, Duets. The Show is a wonderful sweet comedy and runs for only two weekends, June 22 to July 1. Click here to book (more info below).

Best wishes and see you at Z-PAC!

And a Special Thanks to George who has agreed to “Act” in our upcoming Production “It’s Only A Play”. He will be the voice-over of a TV Announcer that comes on periodically throughout the show. We needed an American Accent and immediately thought of you! Thanks for your help with this George!

A Few Words from the President, Liane Mills

What a fabulous first weekend for Godspell! The audiences for this sellout show have been so enthusiastic and thoroughly enjoyed it. Congratulations to Directors Tim Holstein and Cherie Treloar and the entire cast and crew for this brilliant production. Hope you have seen the show and if not, there are a few tickets left for next weekend, so book here https://www.trybooking.com/TJIS

At a Zonta Breakfast for International Women’s Day recently, I had the pleasure of meeting the amazing actor, teacher and director Dawn Albinger. It would be wonderful to have Dawn come up and do some workshops with our actors, and we are in discussions now to see if we can make this happen.

Great meeting last week with our Mayor George Seymour, Councillor David Lewis and FCRC Director of Development and Community Toni Averay. Z-PAC Vice President Derek Barrington and I have a wonderful time showing them around the theatre and discussing the Theatre’s needs now and into the future. Lots of positive energy and progress to be made together. Stay tuned for more on this.

Secretary Steve Dixon has been working with Roger Jennings on plans for a new Curtain at the front of the Stage – woohoo! Haven’t had one since we extended the stage several years ago.

Preview Night for Volunteers is always something they look forward. Having a special preshow viewing for our hard working volunteers, along with a complimentary drink from the bar and some nibbles is just one small way Z-PAC can say thank you to our active volunteers, and the Preview Night for Godspell was Fabulous! If you are interested in being part of ZPAC, contact me for more information.

Strategic Planning Meeting on the weekend with our re-elected Committee was very productive with lots of procedural fine tuning to assist with the year ahead. Your committee is feeling really excited and humbled by the overwhelming support we have received from our members and the community in general. Please always let us know how we can serve you better.
